What is Global Education

from: http://www.ite.edu.sg/about_ite/areport/AR2006-2007/global-education.html
from: http://www.noagendahomeschool.com/
"Global education is an education perspective which arises from the fact that contemporary people
live and interact in an increasingly globalised world. This makes it crucial for education to give learners the opportunity and competences to reflect and share their own point of view and role within a global, interconnected society, as well as to understand and discuss complex relationships of common social, ecological, political and economic issues, so as to derive new ways of thinking and acting. However, global education should not be presented as an approach that we may all accept uncritically, since we already know there are dilemmas, tensions, doubts and different perceptions in an education process when dealing with global issues.
Global education is education that opens people’s eyes and minds to the realities of the globalised world and awakens them to bring about a world of greater justice, equity and Human Rights for all. Global education is understood to encompass Development Education, Human Rights Education, Education for Sustainability, Education for Peace and Conflict Prevention and Intercultural Education; being the global dimension of Education for Citizenship." Lincoln Elementary Visit

from: http://internet.phillipmartin.info/index.htm

1. What was your overall impression of the learning environment at Lincoln Elementary School?
My overall impression of the learning environment at Lincoln Elementary School was very positive, open, and encouraging. The teachers and students that I saw while at Lincoln were all very open and friendly; they are always willing to help others around them. I could tell that the learning environment established at Lincoln by the teachers, students, and other staff members is really great; everyone seems to get along and help others by encouraging and not degrading.

2. Name, describe and reflect on some of the technologies you experienced today. They don't need to be technologies that are new to you.
The main technology I experienced at Lincoln was the Mimio. The librarian and technology "go-to gal" used the Mimio to introduce us to Lincoln Elementary and what is being done there. She explained the nuts and bolts of using the Mimio in general, and in the classroom. Also, I got to see the Mimio in action by 1st graders in a classroom. The 1st graders showed my classmates and me how they use the Mimio everyday in various subjects and in various contexts as well.
I had heard of and attempted to use the Mimio before during my level II field experience at UNI in the Price Lab School during my three math lessons with 1st graders. I ended up not being able to use it because I didn't have the technology downloaded on my computer, and the teacher who did have the technology downloaded, didn't have Kidspiration (which is what my lessons were on) on her computer. So even though I didn't actually get to use the technology, I saw the students use it before during regular class time. I would really like to have a Mimio in my future classroom because of all it's various features.

I also got introduced to Google Sketch Up. The software program allows anyone to design 3-D images, structures, buildings, etc. I witnessed a 6th grade class use this program to build and design their own buildings for an assignment. It was really cool to watch the students because if someone had a question, another student would just go over and show or explain the answer/solution to the question.

3. How did your experience today affect your vision of what you will do in your future classroom?
from: http://internet.phillipmartin.info/index.htm
My experience at Lincoln Elementary will affect the way I teach in my future classroom by the way/method that I incorporate technology. I was really impressed with the Mimio technology, and really want to have that in my classroom for me future students to use as a tool to enhance their learning experience in my classroom. My vision for my future classroom has somewhat changed after visiting Lincoln. I already knew I wanted to incorporate technology into my classroom; every subject can benefit from the use of using technology to enhance student learning. There are many internet applications/games online for various subjects, and using an interactive whiteboard to allow students to participate in those games could really do amazing things for their understanding of a certain subject or topic within a subject.

Project Based Learning

What is Project Based Learning? According to http://eduscapes.com/tap/topic43.htm, Project Based Learning, or PBL, is an approach to learning focusing on the process of solving a problem and acquiring knowledge. The approach is also inquiry-based when students are active in creating the problem. PBL is an excellent way to get students involved and thinking at a higher level in classrooms. There are MANY examples of PBL that worked and really benefited the students and teacher. I believe that all teachers should use PBL in his or her classroom. Project Based Learning is a website that has several checklists for teachers to use when creating or setting up a PBL unit for students. Online PBL is another great website that has pretty much everything you need and want to know about PBL; it is a great resource for teachers! What is PBL is an amazing website that has it all when it comes to PBL! The website contains examples, resources, checklists, and much more for teachers to use to really get all the benefits of PBL in the classroom.

After learning about PBL in class I have decided that I definitely want to use PBL in my future classroom(s). I love the way Project Based Learning is designed to really motivate and involve the students. It's a method of learning that is fun for both the students and the teachers to incorporate into the curriculum. Below are some videos that I found to be useful and interesting when researching PBL. I hope you enjoy and learn something new!

Introduction Presentation Experience

From zonkio.com
I really liked the idea behind this project. It was fun to create a multimedia introduction of myself instead of just telling the class a few random things about me that the other students will never remember. In all reality, I remember few things from the presentations, however they were much more entertaining and engaging than the usual method most professors have students do. My partner and I choose to use Prezi as our means of presenting.  I had only been introduced to Prezi during Ed Tech and Design, so it was pretty much a new experience for me. I enjoyed exploring Prezi and learning about it's capabilities. There is SO many techniques and methods you can use on Prezi, the learning is ongoing. I liked the fact that I learned how to use a new program, and plan on using Prezi again in the future. Here is a link for you to view our presentation. Overall, I gained more knowledge on how to use Prezi than I did about my classmates, however I did learn about my classmates still. I really enjoyed watching other presentations, and I found the presentations I learned and remembered the most from where the other Prezi presentations. Below I embeded a few videos about Prezi to broaden your knowledge on what exactly Prezi is. The Prezi website also contains MANY videos for you to explore and learn from. What would you use Prezi for?

CCA Expectations

From tritec-inc.org
From ruralmissouri.org
From tenafly.k12.nj.us
I expect to learn many new aspects of technology that I can incorporate into my future classroom in this class. I would really like to learn about Project Based Learning and how students respond to it. I also would like to learn how to effectively incorporate PBL into my classroom. Another expectation I have for this class is to learn about techniques I can use to better my students learning. There are many forms of technology, and I expect to learn about using a variety of them. Some technologies I would like to learn about are handhelds, cameras, podcasting, wikis, classroom blogs, and computer software. Overall, I would really just like to learn how to use technology in my future classroom effectively.
